Tips to Keep Your Eyeglass Lenses Clean From Your Kennesaw Optometrist
When you must handle your glasses, do so by the frames. This includes when putting them on and taking them off or when adjusting their position on your face. Oil and dirt from your hands can easily transfer to your lenses, and removing that oil can be tricky.
Although it's tempting to wear your glasses on top of your head when you don't need them, it's better to take them off and set them down. Oil from your hair and scalp can get onto your glasses. Hair accessories can also cause damage to your glasses.
Be careful not to lay your glasses down on the lenses. When setting your glasses down, use the arms as a rest for them to keep the lenses off the surface of the table.
Keep your eyeglasses in a case when not in use. This can both hard and soft cases are available, and sometimes glasses come with a case. Storing your glasses in a case also prevent damage from other items, such as keys, which may come into contact with your glasses. A hard case provides the best protection for eyeglasses.
Cleaning Your Eyeglasses
Try as we might, glasses sometimes become dirty. Cleaning dirty lenses is also important. Some people reach for items such as napkins or tissues which appear to be soft, and even feel soft to the touch, but are still rough enough to scratch the lenses of eyeglasses. The same is true for any clothing that is not 100% cotton, which is why you shouldn't clean your glasses with your shirt.
A lint-free cloth offers the perfect solution for drying your glasses. Do not wipe your glasses when they are dry. Any debris on your glasses will be ground into the surface. Instead, use a wet cloth designed for cleaning glasses or a specially-designed glasses clean. A drop of dish soap (without any moisturizers) will also do the trick. Do not use commercial glass cleaners on your eyeglasses.
Rub the cleanser on your glasses, rinse with warm water, and dry with the soft cloth.
