Frequently Asked Questions About Eye Exams in Kennesaw, GA

Here at Hobson Eye Associates in Kennesaw, GA, our optometrist wants you do understand the importance of your regular, yearly eye exam. Here are a few of the common eye exam questions we receive.

eye exam FAQs answered by our optometrist in Kennesaw, GA

What is a routine eye exam?

A routine eye exam refers to your yearly eye exam. During this exam, our optometrist will test your eyes for certain health conditions, like glaucoma, and test your visual acuity. If you already wear glasses or have a vision that is less than 20/20, our eye doctor will write you a new prescription for glasses.

Why should I have my eyes examined?

Getting your eyes examined at regular intervals helps you see clearly, and it allows our optometrist to diagnose any eye conditions, like glaucoma, AMD, and diabetic retinopathy before they start negatively affecting your vision. Most eye diseases do not have any symptoms, which means you will not feel pain or notice any changes in your ability to move your eyes. Instead, you will experience a slow decline in your visual acuity.

What is a dilated eye exam?

If you have not had your eye dilated recently, our optometrist may opt to dilate your eyes. This expands your pupil so that our eye doctor can view the back of your eye. This exam is used to detect problems with your retina, macula and optical nerve. If you have diabetes, high blood pressure or are at risk for certain eye diseases, you will want to have a dilated eye exam.

Do you offer eye exams for glasses?

We do offer eye exams for glasses and contacts. Eye exam appointments include everything in the routine eye exam plus determining your glasses prescription and writing your prescription. Once you have your prescription, you can get it filled in our optical shop where we offer fashionable glasses for men, women, and children.

How long does an eye exam last?

You should plan for your eye exam to take at least an hour. If you are a new patient or need to have your eyes dilated, you should plan for your exam to take slightly longer. Eye exams typically consist of testing your eyes for glaucoma and other eye diseases, including AMD and cataracts, and determining your visual acuity. If you have questions about our eye doctor or have noticed a change in your vision, you should discuss those things during your appointment.
