Surgery Co-Management & Consultations in Kennesaw

Although we don't provide our patients with LASIK or any other surgical procedure in our Kennesaw office, we want to help our patients every step of the way when they require or opt for surgery. We start with the initial consultation and advise you on the best option for you. We also give you insight on whether or not you qualify for the surgery as well as the eye surgeons we recommend. Once you undergo the surgery, we'll conduct a follow-up to ensure the surgery went as planned. We also provide you with aftercare to help ensure you heal properly.

Cataract Surgery Co-Management

Cataracts cause a clouding over the lens of the eye. In its early stages, a cataract will cause blurry vision and/or a glare. Patients with glaucoma may have difficulty reading. As it progresses, your vision will begin to dim. You may even lose your sight completely. While prescription glasses will correct your vision in the early stages, as the disease progresses, surgery is the only option. There isn't usually much of a rush to get the surgery because cataracts aren't usually damaging to the eye. When we feel you'd benefit from cataract surgery, we will educate you on the surgical procedure that consists of removing the damaged lens and replacing it with an artificial one. Usually, we won't even recommend you for the surgery until cataracts affect your daily life such as your ability to read or drive at night.

Once you undergo the procedure, we encourage you to come see us. We'll ensure your new lens is working out well for you through, not just one, but several follow-ups. We encourage our surgery patients to visit us each year, so we can detect any problems or changes.

Glaucoma Surgery Co-Management in Kennesaw

Glaucoma is a condition that occurs due to damage to the optic nerve. A person's vision will decrease when they have the condition, and it can eventually lead to blindness. Early detection is key to preventing serious vision loss. That's why we encourage our patients to see us regularly to detect any issues early. Early detection can allow us to begin treatments such as eye drops or oral medications that decrease pressure in the eye. By conducting the necessary testing, we can detect the problem and suggest surgery as early as possible if the condition should happen to progress.

For angular-closure glaucoma, laser eye surgery is the main treatment because it can open the angle. Those with congenital glaucoma will require incision surgery because it can open up the drainage canals. Laser surgery can be a primary treatment option for open-angle glaucoma. However, it can also be used in conjunction with medications. Typically, we only recommend incisional surgery if the maximum amount of medication isn't reducing your eye pressure adequately. We may also recommend this type of surgery if medications cause you intolerable side effects.

Once you've had your surgical procedure, we ask you to follow up with us, even if you have to follow up with your surgeon. We want to see the results and make sure for ourselves you're not experiencing any complications. We also ask you come to us yearly to ensure the results of your surgery are still adequate because it's possible for issues to occur many years after.

LASIK surgery treats refractive eye problems including nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia. The goal of LASIK is to reduce or eliminate your need for corrective lenses or prescription glasses. If you're interested in undergoing LASIK eye surgery, we advise you to schedule an appointment with us. We'll determine if you're a candidate for the procedure. Your condition may require a different type of laser procedure, depending on your particular vision problems. Once we determine if you're a suitable candidate, we'll give our recommendation for LASIK surgeons around the Kennesaw area.

Once you have the procedure done, come visit us again, so we can evaluate your results. Even though you may not need corrective lens or glasses anymore, you'll still need to see us each year.
